Disruption Updates: Mendoza-Chile Border & Southern Italy Trucker Strike

South America: The Paso Los Libertadores / Cristo Redentor border crossing between Mendoza and Chile has closed due to adverse weather in the high mountain area, following forecasts and technical reports from Argentine and Chilean authorities indicating unstable conditions. The International Tunnel closed on October 18 at 22:00, and the barrier in Uspallata was scheduled to close at 20:00. Forecasts call for continued snowfall, sub-zero temperatures, and strong winds throughout the week, with snow chances highest Sunday through Tuesday (40-70%) before easing. This may delay the reopening of the pass and affect trucking movements between Chile and Argentina until conditions improve and authorities confirm it is safe to resume. Our Chile operations team is updating the status of each PO.

Italy: A trucker strike called for Sicily and the Port of Naples, running October 16-21, has now expanded and is in place across all of southern Italy. The impact on current shipments is not yet known, and our Italy team will advise on any affected cargo. Please plan for possible trucking delays in the region through at least October 21.

If you have questions about shipments in transit or planned movements in either region, please reach out. We’re monitoring both situations closely and will share updates as they develop.
