Chile: An indefinite truckers’ strike began today, October 29, at the Port of San Antonio, with more than 40 independent operators reportedly immobilizing about 200 trucks and blocking access to terminals in San Antonio. The strike is driven by rising fuel costs and planned electronic toll (TAG) expansion on Route 78 and will continue until the Chilean Government responds. Expect delays in container pick-up and delivery, trucking disruptions, and backlog once operations resume. Please check on any specific urgent shipments that are currently scheduled for pick up!
U.S. West Coast: ILWU Local 26, the watchmen division representing about 2% of ILWU members, is threatening to strike on November 1 after contract talks that have been ongoing since 2025. The main ILWU contract runs through July 2028, but if Local 26 strikes, other ILWU workers could support them and stop work at the ports. That would add pressure to a congested LA-Long Beach complex, where over 35,000 containers are reportedly backlogged waiting for rail. The PMA says negotiations are ongoing, but the current contract extension expires on the 1st. We hope to see a positive outcome.
We will share updates on both situations as they become available.
